Encouraging Kindness

It’s been snowing a lot here in Salt Lake. We probably got a good foot in the last week and with the way this winter has gone, I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if it just kept coming. One of the downsides to the never-ending snow is that the driveways and sidewalks need to be shoveled almost constantly. This week our sweet next door neighbor not only did our driveway but all of our sidewalks as well. It was such a pleasant surprise to go out to my car and not get stuck in the driveway this time. We have … Continue reading

How Heavy is Your Load?

Yesterday, our high councilman came to speak to us in Sacrament meeting. I have to be honest and say that through most of his talk I was in the hallway trying to bounce a baby boy to sleep. He finally did, so I snuck back in for the last 10 minutes of his talk. He shared a story that I thought was powerful, and made me think. He said that Elder Bednar came to visit at a recent regional conference in our area and shared a story that he wanted to share with us. Now, he was paraphrasing Elder Bednar, … Continue reading

Fatherhood and Doctor’s Visits

We’ve spent a lot of time in doctors’ offices lately. A chiropractor who does many things other than spine adjustments to treat his patients has discovered and helped many of our family health problems. My wife Tristi was in a wreck that totaled both the semi truck and the Hyundai her friend drove. So we’re experienced with both getting well, and getting vehicles off crowded, icy roads. Visits to doctors’ offices are usually done by the children’s mother. As our family roles change, or as semis are taken out by Hyundais, fathers also get to bring their children to visit … Continue reading

This is Girls on Adolescence

After being on his feet for the last three hours, all Gordon wanted to do was find a nice, quiet bench and sit down. Of course, that wasn’t an option. Under other circumstances, this simple request would seem logical, but they were on vacation, and Peggy had made it abundantly clear they were going to take full advantage of every second. But it was the Smithsonian, for heaven’s sake! You could literally walk around for days and not see all of it. That hadn’t deterred Peggy in the least, nor did it appear to deter Rachel, who was going strong, … Continue reading

When Your Bedroom is an Eyesore

I don’t know if you are like me but I tend to spend more energy and effort into decorating the common areas of our home, like the kitchen and living room and less thought is put into my bedroom. But when it comes to keeping the home clean, you are more likely to put effort into those rooms you have spent time decorating. Rooms that are just kind of blah don’t give you as much motivation. So be sure to put some decorating touches in your bedroom, just to spruce things up and give you more drive to keep it … Continue reading
