Insurance Blog Week in Review – April 1-7, 2012

The Insurance Blog Week in Review brings you a quick and easy way to “ketchup” on everything that hit the blog in the past week. There are always somewhere between 12 and 14 blogs that appear here, and it is easy to accidentally miss something that you wanted to read. What did you miss this week? What Do Insurance Brokers Do? This blog will clear up any confusion you might have about what insurance brokers do, how they get paid, and how they are connected to insurance companies. The Insurance Podcast Roundup went up on April 2, 2012. This week, … Continue reading

Waiting On a Status Update

Last week, I went to see an insurance broker, in the hopes that she could find me an affordable health insurance policy. To my pleasant surprise, she was able to not only find one, but to help me to apply for it as well. Since then, I have been waiting for a status update from the insurance company. The wait feels long. This blog is one of the many I have written about my continued quest to find affordable health insurance. So far, all of my attempts to do this by myself ended in failure. That is what inspired me … Continue reading

Computer Updates and Maintenance

Perhaps you are more patient and efficient than I am and you actually do all those computer updates and routine maintenance checks on a regular basis? For me, it seems like those little yellow-framed boxes are popping up on my computer constantly: “Update Needed” or “Check Status.” While I know in the back of my head that they are an important element to keeping my business computer in working order, it can be so time consuming! The last thing I want to do after signing on in a fit of inspiration is to have to “restart” my computer in order … Continue reading

Approved for Health Insurance, One More Time!

After an impatient wait, I have been given an answer. The underwriters at the health insurance company that I applied for a policy with have approved my application. This is great news! Now, I need to find out what the premiums are going to cost me, because that isn’t very clear. It never is. The hardest part about applying for health insurance is the waiting for approval or denial by the insurance company. This puts a person into a situation where they have done everything they can do, and now, are waiting, powerlessly, for some big corporation to decide their … Continue reading

Health Insurance is on Everyone’s Mind

In the past few weeks, I have found myself being very focused on health insurance. It isn’t just because I write about it every day. It also has to do with the fact that I am in the process of (hopefully) being approved for a health insurance policy. My experience today showed me that health insurance is on everyone’s mind, not just mine. Recently, I applied for what I believe could be an affordable health insurance policy. The insurer has sent me an email that acknowledges that they received my application. I have yet to hear whether or not I … Continue reading

Is your Smartphone Smart Enough?

I came into the smartphone world a bit late. I was convinced I did not need one as long as I had my trusty computer. When I was out and about someone could still call or text and that would have to be good enough, right? So I went along my merry way with a regular cell phone ignorant to how a smartphone would change how I did business. Once the novelty of Angry Birds, Pandora radio, and making my phone into a flashlight worn off I began to focus on using my phone to support my business. After all, … Continue reading

What is Humanitarian Parole?

My last blog spoke of hundreds of orphans whose adoptions were in progress at the time of the earthquake being granted “humanitarian parole”. Humanitarian parole is a temporary admittance to the U.S. granted on an individual basis when immediate travel to the U.S. is believed to be necessary to “ensure the care the individual requires”. Perhaps we are most familiar with the term applying to children who need medical treatment unavailable in their home countries, whether they are in the process of being adopted or only seeking to be in the U.S. while under medical care. As I mentioned in … Continue reading

Do I Really Need a Replacement Ring?

Earlier this year I wrote about how I broke my ring. As much as I hate looking at my naked ring finger (which always reminds me that it’s my own fault my diamond’s not perched there anymore), I realized this past Saturday I don’t want another ring. Looking at New Rings My heart hasn’t been in the shopping mood anyway, but while we were waiting for a table at Carrabba’s Saturday night, Wayne suggested we skip across the parking lot to Jared’s and see what kind of rings they had. “I really need to get you another ring. It’s been … Continue reading
