Mistake #2 Parents Make With Teenagers: Looking for Parenting Answers in Others

So far I have covered mistake #1 that parents of teenagers make, expecting the worse out of this stage of life.  The second mistake I am going to talk about is trying to find parenting answers through others. I know that sounds pretty strange, considering I am technically giving advice.  But at the heart of my message is this…every family is different, so you have to learn what’s best for yours. This doesn’t mean that help from others—whether it comes through books, seminars or blogs—shouldn’t be sought.  It doesn’t mean that you can’t be encouraged or inspired by others. But … Continue reading

One great resource that I have used to answer many of my … Continue reading

Why My Veterinarian Is the Best

(but my cat doesn’t think so) Last Thursday I took Cole to the vet for his annual visit. Although I didn’t get many more answers there than I did when Chrestomanci had his trip, I left much more satisfied. I’m just continually reminded why I love my vet. I brought up my questions about Cole’s behavioral antics and, unfortunately (though I suspected as much) the vet didn’t really have any advice for me. She said many cats enjoy being in high places, and that there’s not a lot to do to deter them. I asked whether he would be happier … Continue reading

I highly recommend using an insurance broker to help you find a good, affordable, health insurance policy. My broker was able to answer all my questions about health insurance in general, and about the plans that she gave me quotes on. … Continue reading

Doing The Best We Can

Today has been one of those days. What am I saying, it’s been one of those weeks. Those weeks when you would give anything to have someone else take some of the burden, someone else who could find the right thing to say, someone else to know exactly how you are feeling. That’s not going to happen. I’m a single mother, this is my life, no one else’s and as much as other people love my daughter and I, when you get right down to it, it’s just the two of us. Just my daughter, making decisions, changing her mind, turning … Continue reading

What Not to Buy Now

You probably know that there are times when certain items are at their best prices, and times when they are not. Of course, since the things that we buy are so numerous and varied it can be very hard to keep track of what to buy when. One good resource is a book called “Buy Ketchup in May and Fly at Noon” by Mark DiVincenzo. Not only does this book offer valuable money – saving information, it also offers other suggestions for the best times to do certain things and go certain places which can save you time and make … Continue reading

Why Don’t They Get It?

My sister in law is trying to plan an outing to celebrate their Dad’s birthday and his completion of chemotherapy. Finishing chemotherapy is definitely something that should be celebrated but there are something’s that no one is considering. The first being that he will only be complete in his chemo for 2 weeks; having gone through chemo I know he is still going to be low on energy, appetite and may still be nauseas. When we tried to nicely explain this to my sister in law her reply was “Yeah I know”. Well considering between me and her there is … Continue reading
