Romney’s Comments About Insurance in Nevada

The Republican primary in Nevada has come to an end, and Mitt Romney has been declared the winner. It is expected that the winner of a primary will give a victory speech. Romney’s speech in Nevada did, in part, resemble his speech in Florida. Some parts of his speech referenced insurance related topics. Mitt Romney was declared the winner of the Republican Primary in Florida. It is standard practice for candidates who win a State Primary to give a victory speech. The Battle Over Birth Control Coverage Continues

Two religious colleges have sued the federal government over birth control. This stems from a law that requires employers to cover the cost of birth control in their employer sponsored health insurance plans. Group Asks Supreme Court to Review Health Care Case

The Thomas More Law Center has officially asked the Supreme Court to review the decision made by a United States appeals court. The appeals court decided that the mandatory health insurance requirement was constitutional. The Thomas More Law Center wants to see that decision overturned. This is a battle that has been going on since the day that President Barack Obama signed the health care reform law known as The Affordable Care Act, (and also as “Obamacare”). Lawsuits About Insurance Mandate Continue

A group of States have asked an appeals court to uphold a ruling that was made by a lower court. The judge in the lower court ruled that the insurance buying mandate that is a part of the Affordable Care Act was unconstitutional. This appears to be the next step in the ongoing legal battles involving the most controversial part of the Affordable Care Act. It is kind of like watching a tennis match, but in extreme slow motion. Americans just voted in the midterm election of 2010. One of the biggest issues in this election was, of course, health insurance. The election may be over, but the battle over health insurance continues! Protest in Chicago Over Birth Control Mandate

The battle over birth control coverage continues. Over 500 people attended a protest in Chicago about the federal requirement that employer sponsored health plans must cover birth control. Unsurprisingly, the majority of the crowd of protesters were Catholic. There are two sides to this ongoing battle. On one side, is the federal government, who want women to be able to have access to birth control. The government recognizes that birth control is an important part of preventative care for women. 43 Catholic Groups Sue Over Birth Control Coverage

There has been an ongoing battle about a federal requirement that states that all health insurance plans must include coverage for birth control. Today, 43 Catholic groups have filed around a dozen lawsuits challenging this law. The Catholic groups feel that requiring coverage of birth control violates their religious freedom. To make a long story short, it comes down two main concepts. The Catholic groups believe that being required to cover birth control in their employer sponsored health plans, and their student health plans, violates their religious freedom.
