New York Rejects Medicaid Coverage of Transgender Surgery

Should Medicaid cover the cost of transgender surgery? An advisory panel in New York has rejected this idea. However, the state of California, and the state of Minnesota, do allow their Medicaid programs to cover the cost of gender reassignment surgery. Several large corporations, including Coca Cola, Yahoo!, American Express, AT&T, New York Life, and Wells Fargo, have expanded their employer sponsored health insurance to include coverage of the health needs of their transgender workers.
