Thousands of Motorcycle Owners are About to Get Refunds

Thousands of motorcycle owners are about to get some money back from their insurance companies. Three different insurance companies who have been overcharging their customers have reached a settlement with the Massachusetts attorney general’s office. This is good news for consumers. Motorcycle insurance functions very similarly to a typical auto insurance policy. Auto insurance will cover cars, trucks, vans, and other types of vehicles that have four wheels, but it excludes coverage for motorcycles. Therefore, people who drive motorcycles are going to have to purchase motorcycle insurance. In some states, all motorcycle drivers are required to have this type of … Continue reading

May is Motorcycle Safety Month

The merry month of May comes with some very nice weather. This inspires people to get their motorcycles out of their garages and take them for a nice ride. Before you do that, though, make sure you have the right kind of insurance. The auto insurance policy that you have on your car or truck is not something that you can use to cover your motorcycle, even though it is, technically, a vehicle. If your state requires drivers to purchase car insurance, then the same law probably applies to people who drive motorcycles. Some people think that they don’t need … Continue reading

Insurance Blog Week In Review March 13-19, 2007

Insurance Term Of The Week: Underwriter I sure have been finding the Parental Liability Blogs very interesting to write. It seems that we are responsible for a wide range of things our children might do as we raise them. This series has sure made me rethink some of the things I expect from the system. Parenting is a real risk financially and some of the ways we are responsible are interesting. Wednesday, March 14, 2007. Four More Parental Liable Issues Negligent Supervision is a legal theory where a minor child’s parents are held liable for their child’s negligent acts when … Continue reading

All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) Insurance

Spring is just around the corner and last week I wrote a Blog about Personal Watercraft, or small boats. The other thing families seem to be attracted to adding as a toy are All Terrain Vehicle’s otherwise known as an ATV. Useful, fun and wonderful way to spend a weekend ATV’s are loved by families, ranchers, hunters, beach safety, and trail riders all over the country. In some cases, a Homeowner Policy might offer some coverage for an ATV that is used only on your own private property. But, most Homeowner policies will not cover if it’s used off your … Continue reading

The Farmers Insurance Group of Companies.

My first job with insurance started shortly after I was married in 1981. I was 18-years-old and my parents told me I had to switch my auto insurance into my name. I dropped into the local Farmer’s Insurance office to transfer the policy. I met John P. Woods a local Farmer’s Insurance Agent in El Cajon, California. He was the best teacher I ever had in the area of business. Customer Service was his number one goal. I learned how to rate insurance before computers were part of the business world. It was interesting, and gave me an insight to … Continue reading

Motorcycle Insurance Basics

Summer is here and it’s the time of year many families break out the motorcycles! Weather you are just the weekend rider or a hardcore biker insuring your motorcycle can be a frustrating process because many insurance carriers don’t offer motorcycle coverage. It’s important to understand the coverage’s, conditions and exclusions of any motorcycle insurance policy your auto insurance company may offer. Many people assume their motorcycle insurance policy covers all the same things their auto insurance does only to find out at the time of a loss that some kinds of claims are not covered or not covered the … Continue reading

Biker Babes Unite

Did you know the fastest growing segment of motorcycle owners in the country wears skirts? I live in Harley country so seeing women on the back of souped up hogs is nothing out of the ordinary. But for others watching dozens of biker babes—driving—not riding on the back of motorcycles is quite a sight. (At least it was for my mother who was born and raised in Hawaii.) If you think the experience was unique for my mother think about how the chicks on those bikes must feel. Twenty years ago 90% of motorcycle owners were men. These days motorcycle … Continue reading

Ask Anna: Pennsylvania Auto Accident and Injury Claim

Question: Left as a comment on the Ask Anna Blog. Dear Anna, Perhaps you my know, or can direct me to where I can find out, but…..,we live in Pennsylvania with no-fault auto/motorcycle insurance laws and were involved in a motorcycle/automobile accident where the other driver was at fault. Because we assumed that we could sue for pain and suffering and damages under the full tort option we paid for, we felt secure. As it turns out in Pennsylvania, per our attorney, we are being told that we “cannot” sue because: 1) It would cost us way more than we … Continue reading

Miss Julia Hits the Road — Ann B. Ross

This is the fourth installment of the Miss Julia series by Ann B. Ross. As if it wasn’t enough that Sam hired a flirty nurse to take care of him while he recovered from a broken leg, now he has done the unthinkable. As soon as he was up and around again, he bought a Harley-Davidson Road King and parked it in front of Miss Julia’s house, and he wants her to go on a ride with him. Something is definitely wrong with Sam. He’s been sending her flowers and writing bad poetry, and he’s even taken to wearing cowboy … Continue reading
