In the Blog Million-Dollar Legs: Body-Part Insurance I wrote about why a celebrity might want or need a body-part insurance policy. Juicy gossip of body-parts being insured at high rates are not only one way a celebrity can protect themselves from the risk of loss in the event their body part fails but it can also prove to be a great publicity gimmick.

Throughout the history of modern celebrity body part insurance policies have been issued for some interesting people and some very interesting body parts:

  • During 1940s Jimmy Durante insured his trade-mark large nose for $50,000.
  • There were rumors at one time Dolly Parton insured her chest for half a million
  • Some reports said actress Bette Davis had insurance against the risk of weight gain.
  • Harvey Lowe was the first winner of the World Yo-Yo Contest in 1934, and the Cherrie Yo-Yo Company insured his hands for $150,000.
  • Liberace, and Keith Richards guitarist of the Rolling Stones insured their hands for undisclosed amounts.
  • A famous British food critic Egon Ronay had his taste buds covered for $400,000.
  • A British cricket player, Merv Hughes has insurance in the amount of £200,000 on his moustache.
  • The Millions Dollar leg club may have started with Betty Grable, but includes other celebrities such as Mary Hart, Angie Everhart. Jamie Lee Curtis.
  • The Lord of the Dance, Michael Flatley insured his legs for £25 million.
  • But even a non-celebrity might get to insure a body part. When a Florida resident, Domitila Hunnicutt won a Most Valuable Legs contest that was sponsored by Jergens, the company insured her legs for $2 million for one year.
  • When Mariah Carey was selected by Gillette to be the spokeswoman of their razor campaign, Legs of a Goddess rumors were that she had a 1-Billion Dollar policy covering her legs.
  • There have been strange reports of celebrity body parts insurance for example reports said Heidi Klum liked her right leg more then they liked her left and insured the right leg for $1.2 million and the left at a pitiful $1 million.
  • One of the most recent reports of celebrity body-part insurance policy is television sitcom star of Ugly Betty, America Ferrera and rumors that Aquafreash holds a 10 million dollar insurance policy with Lloyd's of London insuring her bright and beautiful smile.
