Anthem is Discontinuing My Health Insurance Policy

Anthem Blue Cross has decided that they are going to “discontinue” the health insurance policy that they sold me about four months ago. There is absolutely nothing I can do about it. I feel like the company lied to me, and I also feel like this is a form of “bait and switch”. Those of you who have been following my blogging here on the Families.com Insurance blog already know about how hard I’ve struggled to find health affordable health insurance coverage. In 2009, I lost my job as a teachers aide, which meant that I lost my insurance coverage … Continue reading

The Rx Relief Card is Not Insurance

My husband received two Rx Relief cards in the mail. It came from a company called Healthcare Alliance. A little digging around on the internet revealed that this is something to stay away from! Everything about it sounds like a scam. The mail my husband got from Healthcare Alliance looked very much like what one would receive from a legitimate insurance company. The letter said “Good news- You’ve been accepted!”, which is odd, because my husband never applied for anything from this company. The letter had two, plastic, cards attached to it that, at first glance, look very much like … Continue reading

California Replicates Health Care Reform Laws

Sometime soon, we will hear what the Supreme Court decides in regards to the Affordable Care Act. Will it be repealed? Will it be upheld? As the nation holds it collective breath, wondering how this decision will affect their health insurance policies, California has been working on replicating the Affordable Care Act in its state laws. I moved from Illinois to California in 2005. For the most part, I’ve been really happy with how things have worked out. I don’t have to worry about waking up early to thaw out my car, and knock all the snow off of it, … Continue reading

Hard to Get – But Easy to Lose

I got another letter from my health insurance company. In the past, the letters were filled with good news. This one, however, warned me that they were about to drop my coverage. I had to work so hard to find an affordable health plan. It seems unfair that it could be lost, in the blink of an eye! In 2009, I lost my job, which meant that I lost my health insurance along with it. It took until 2012 for me to find affordable health insurance coverage again. In between, I spent countless hours searching for information about health insurance … Continue reading

More Good News From My Health Insurance Company

Today, I unexpectedly got a letter from my health insurance company. It wasn’t a bill, and it wasn’t a letter telling me that they were going to increase my premiums, or drop my coverage. Instead, it was filled with good news about things that will soon be covered by my health insurance policy. I’ve only had my health insurance plan for a couple of months. I haven’t actually had a reason to use it, yet. Fortunately, I haven’t gotten into any serious accidents, and have been relatively healthy. The only problems I’ve been having are allergy related and I find … Continue reading

Self-Employed Can Deduct Health Insurance Premiums

I am self-employed, and I recently found an affordable health insurance plan. Today, my husband was looking around on the internet, and he found some very interesting information. It turns out that people who are self-employed can include their premiums as a tax deduction. This is excellent news! The easiest way to find health insurance coverage is to be fortunate enough to have a job that comes with a health insurance benefit. Once a worker qualifies for their company’s health insurance plan they are assured of being approved for it. People who are self-employed have to put in a lot … Continue reading

Approved for Health Insurance, One More Time!

After an impatient wait, I have been given an answer. The underwriters at the health insurance company that I applied for a policy with have approved my application. This is great news! Now, I need to find out what the premiums are going to cost me, because that isn’t very clear. It never is. The hardest part about applying for health insurance is the waiting for approval or denial by the insurance company. This puts a person into a situation where they have done everything they can do, and now, are waiting, powerlessly, for some big corporation to decide their … Continue reading
