Where does the time go? It seems it's that time of year again. Sorry, I'm not talking about the holiday season, even though they are coming as well. What I am talking about it the annual open enrollment period for Medicare Part D. This is the Medicare Prescription Drug plan.

Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage open enrollment for 2007 is opened! If there is going to be a change made to the current coverage, enrolling and making the change before December 8 will help ensure coverage continues without interruption and Medicare participants can continue to get the prescriptions needed on and after January 1, 2007

Be sure to call your parents or grandparents (or remember to sign up yourself) if qualified for these benefits and remind them to enroll or make Medicare Prescription Drug Plan changes in time to meet the deadline. Enrollment and changes can only be made during the end of November until December 31. And to avoid any lapses in coverage and ensure benefits are in place on January 1, 2007 be sure to enroll by December 8, 2006

Medicare Prescription Drug Plans are offered by many insurance companies approved by Medicare and designed to add prescription drug coverage to the Original Medicare Plan, some Medicare Cost Plans, some Medicare Private Fee-for-Service Plans, and Medicare Medical Savings Account Plans.

Point With a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan:

  • Insured Medicare recipients are able to add insurance coverage and pay less for the prescriptions covered by the insurance policy selected.
  • Qualified and enrolled recipients receive a plan member card after enrolled in an insurance plan.
  • Enrolled Medicare Prescription Drug Plan members use the card when going to the pharmacy to have their prescriptions filled.
  • Depending on the insurance plan the member is enrolled with their may be co payments, coinsurance and/or deductibles.
  • Participants with limited incomes and resources may qualify for additional help and services in order to pay for the Medicare drug plan costs.

The official Medicare website has several features to help members and those wanting to learn more about Medicare benefits to understand the various plans, and services offered or available.
