Life Insurance From My Mortgage Company?

Yesterday, I got a strange piece of mail from my mortgage company. It wasn’t a bill, and it wasn’t a notice about a late payment. I wasn’t a cancellation notice, or anything related to my mortgage. Instead, it was information about a life insurance policy that I can buy from my mortgage company. That was unexpected! For most people, it is a very good idea to have life insurance. A good life insurance policy will provide your spouse and children with the financial assistance that they would need in order to continue living their lifestyle after you have passed away. … Continue reading

Help For Musicians Who Lack Health Insurance

Every year, New Orleans holds a huge jazz festival that goes on for more than a week. The musicians that come to preform at the festival will, at times, require health care. Many of them do not have health insurance. They go to the New Orleans Musicians’ Clinic for the health care that they need. The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival is an annual festival that started in April of 1970. The first one had around 350 people attending. In 2001, attendance reached 650,000. The festival includes twelve different stages, all of which showcase a multitude of musicians, preforming … Continue reading

Horizon Blue Cross Will Sell Insurance From a Mall

Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey will be selling health insurance policies from a retail center that is located in a mall. It wasn’t too long ago that there was speculation that insurers would start opening up accessible retail stores in malls. Now, that is exactly what is starting to happen. When people think about a shopping center, or a mall, they typically think of the food court, the big department stores, and the boutique type clothing stores that are located there. The mall isn’t usually the place that a person goes to if he or she wants … Continue reading

Health Insurance Coverage for Type 2 Diabetes

Chef Paula Deen recently revealed that she has Type 2 diabetes, and that she has had this condition for the past three years. I don’t happen to know any specific details about what her health insurance policy is like. However, I thought it would be good to review what is typically covered in regards to Type 2 diabetes. I think that at least some of Paula Deen’s fans were surprised to hear that she has Type 2 diabetes. Others might point out that her Southern style of cooking tends to contain a lot more fat, butter, and salt than most … Continue reading

Insurance Related New Year’s Resolutions

We are nearly at the end of 2011. Now that the chaos that comes with the holidays is over, people start thinking about the year to come. Have you made any insurance related New Year’s Resolutions? It might be a good idea to reassess your insurance coverage. Right now, you are likely to have at least one or two insurance policies that do not require you to make any changes. For me, this would be my auto insurance policy. I did not purchase a new vehicle in 2011, and my husband and I didn’t need to buy a second vehicle. … Continue reading

Fungus Eats A House – SafeCo Insurance Won’t Cover It

This might be the absolute strangest homeowners insurance claim that I have ever heard of! A rare form of fungus devoured a house that was located in California. The couple who owned it filed a claim to their insurance company. At first, SafeCo said they would cover it, but, after the repairs were made, SafeCo pretty much changed its mind about that. There is a strange fungus that actually can eat wood. It is called Poria incrassata, and it is triggered by water. This fungus is voracious and is quite capable of devouring an entire house a short amount of … Continue reading

Man Loses Weight -Gets Free Health Insurance

It almost sounds too good to be true, but that is exactly what happened for an employee of Adventist Midwest Health. The company held a “Biggest Loser” type contest, in order to encourage their employees to lose weight and make healthier lifestyle choices. The prize was one year of free health insurance. Companies that offer employer sponsored health insurance to at least some of their employees could be taking a financial risk. If the employees that they cover develop serious health conditions, it will cost a lot of money to cover those medical bills. Since the company is paying for … Continue reading
