Applying for Medicare Part B – An Update

Earlier this year, my husband applied for Medicare Part B. He contacted Social Security, and was sent an application to fill out and return. He filled out, and mailed, that application in March. Yesterday, he got a letter that said he had missed the deadline for this year. Obviously, something was wrong! Most of the time, people who are eligible for Medicare receive Part A and Part B at the same time. To make a long story short, that is not how things happened for my husband. He is not age 65 or older, but is receiving Medicare because he … Continue reading

My Quest to Find Affordable Health Insurance is Finished

I recently got approved for a health insurance policy that I can afford. It has been a long, tiring, frustrating, quest to find coverage after I lost my job that came with employer sponsored health insurance. Here is a quick summary of my journey from uninsured to insured. This all started in 2009. I was working as a paraeducator in a special needs classroom. After working for the school for the required amount of time, I became eligible for their employer sponsored health insurance. I think it was Anthem Blue Cross. It covered both me and my husband. My husband … Continue reading

My Insurance Broker was a Big Help!

I am still searching for affordable health insurance. All my attempts to find it so far have resulted in being accepted for policies that were too expensive. Today, my husband and I met with an insurance broker. She was incredibly helpful! At this moment, I have absolutely no health insurance coverage. I am seeking an individual policy. I don’t happen to have the type of job that offers employer sponsored health insurance, (which would be a group policy). I am also seeking health insurance for myself, only. My husband has health insurance coverage through Medicare. Today, we went to see … Continue reading

Applying for Health Insurance Online – Despite Denial

I applied for health insurance by phone, and was denied due to a pre-existing condition. In order to get proof of the reason why I was denied, I had to apply for the same policy through the insurer’s website. Perhaps that proof will help me to qualify for the Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan. The process of applying for health insurance can be tedious and confusing. Earlier today, I spoke with a representative from Celtic Insurance. I wanted to know what the premium for a specific health insurance plan would be. The representative said that she would not know the answer … Continue reading

Applying for Health Insurance by Phone

I am still in the process of trying to find affordable health insurance. Today, I had the time to return the phone call that was left for me by an insurance representative. I ended up applying for the policy right through the phone call. Things did not go exactly as expected. This all started with HealthCare.gov. I used the website to try and find an affordable health insurance policy that would cover only me. My husband has Medicare coverage. The information I was shown led me to an insurer called Celtic Insurance. I called them, but, since it was after … Continue reading

The Insurance Company Called

My husband and I are among the many Americans that are trying to find affordable health insurance. About a week and a half ago, he filled out the application form online. Today, the insurance company called us. Few things are more stressful than an unexpected call from a potential insurer. My husband spent around two hours filling out the online application form for health insurance. It was tedious. It asked what seemed like a million questions about his health, and then asked the same ones about my health. Then it asked me a bunch of questions that relate to women’s … Continue reading
